PREMIER LEAGUE TRANSFERS BREXIT / MILAN - Hurricane Leicester City cancelled hopes and glory dreams of all clubs usually involved in race for the Premier League title last season, but now Manchester City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are ready to battle it out in the 2016-17 campaign and they want to do no more mistakes.

Many things have changed in the Premier League this summer: the FA feared that the ‘Brexit-effect’ could have had a negative impact on negotiations, but English clubs were left free to sign as much European players as they wanted in the summer transfer window, not to mention that new TV right images have given all Premier League clubs a generalized economic power which has allowed each team to spend big in the transfer window.

A business exceeding €1 billion, each club has spent more than € 60 million in the transfer market, Manchester United have made Paul Pogba the most expensive player in the history of the game signing the Frenchman from Juventus for € 105 million.

Manchester City have matched Pogba’s price tag with the signings of John Stones and Leroy Sane combines. The English centre-back has joined the Etihad Stadium in a € 55 million deal, the Germany International’s switch cost City € 50 million.

New € 45 million Arsenal signing Granit Khaka is the fourth most expensive signing of the summer transfer window, followed by Manchester United’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has moved to the Old Trafford in a € 42 million bid. Two players out of five in this shortlist are Mino Raiola’s clients: Pogba and Mkhitaryan, not one of the worst summers ever for the noisy players’ agent.

The two Manchester clubs have spent over € 300 million combined, signing, among the others, the likes of Ibra, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Sane, Gundogan, Stones and Gabriel Jesus. Antonio Conte’s Chelsea have spent € 151 million, Liverpool € 108 million and Arsenal € 87 million. Premier League champions Leicester City have invested less than any other club involved in the title race, having invested a bit more than € 70 million, but they’ve managed to keep the likes of Ryiad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy.

On the deadline day, Chelsea and Leicester City have registered the biggest signings with David Luiz and Marcos Alonso who have joined the Stamford Bridge, whilst Islam Slimani has signed with the Premier League champions. Arbeloa has moved to West Ham as a free agent.
