Spezia, Gilardino: “This is the right team for me. I am ready”

The Italian striker happily signed his new contract

SPEZIA GILARDINO / Yesterday, Calciomercato.it reported Alberto Gilardino’s move to Spezia. The Italian striker was linked with several clubs in the last period. Rumors from the U.K. were stating that Crystal Palace’s coach Roy Hodgson was interested in making an offer to the player to solve the offensive issues of his team after Benteke’s long injury.

However, Gilardino decided to close a deal with Spezia in order to relaunch his career. The 35-year-old striker confirmed that the Premier League was a possible option.

“That was a possibility for me. But I decided differently on the basis of my actual situation. -he said to ANSA.

The only serious and engaging offer was that of Spezia. I will work hard to get in shape as soon as possible”

Alberto Gilardino also spoke about his decision to accept a lower category.

“Last summer I was approached by several clubs. I had many opportunities on the table but Spezia was the only club really close to me, even just to talk about the future. It means a lot to me. I am ready and happy for this new experience.”

The Italian striker joins Spezia after a troubled semester in Pescara where he played just 3 matches. His contract was set to expire on June 30, 2017, and Sebastiani’s team decided to let him go.

Gilardino waited a few months before accepting an offer and starting a new experience somewhere else. Spezia proposed a good project in which he can make the difference and the player happily accepted.

Alberto Gilardino knows that Spezia is the right place for his current ambitions.

“I am sure that I will be able to play my cards here. Spezia is a team that obtained great results in the last few years. First of all, we have to avoid relegation then we’ll see what we can do better than that.”
