Timothy Weah, Enzo Zidane, dealing with high expectations

Both players are football stars’ sons but now they have to leave their fathers’ shadows

ZIDANE WEAH / Definitely it's not easy to deal with the expectation of being Zinedine Zidane's or George Weah's sons. Timothy and Enzo are going ahead with their careers knowing that their fathers made a part of football history. 

The Liberian striker George Weah has played with Milan for several years. He made 114 appearances in the Italian Serie A scoring 46 goals. A few of those were masterpieces. George moved to various clubs over the years. Monaco, PSG, Chelsea, Manchester City, Marseille until he spent his last two professional years with Al-Jazira. He made 314 appearances in his career scoring 115 goals between the Ligue 1, Serie A, Premier League and various international competitions.

Zinedine Zidane shaped his career in France but then reached his top level when he moved to Italy and Spain. He made marvelous performances with Bordeaux until he moved to Juventus in 1996 and then to Real Madrid in 2001. He collected trophies during his career as a player as well as personal awards.

In light of that said above, Timothy Weah and Enzo Zidane have a difficult task to deal with. They have to shape their career without being compared to their unbelievable fathers. Can they do that? We don't know at this time but we can certainly say that they are progressing.

Timothy scored an hattrick with his U.S. U-17 national team in a match valid for the World Cup. PSG signed him hoping that George Weah has passed some of his skillful genes on to his son. Football experts are convinced that the New York-born 17-year-old is a prospect of a great talent. After the burning elimination from the 2018 World Cup in Russia, we are pretty sure that USMNT is hoping the same.

Enzo Fernandez Zidane, instead, was playing for Real Madrid under his father's management. The 22-year-old never made appearances with the 'Blancos' and moved to Alves the past summer. In his first press conference with his new club he stated:

“I just have a father and son relationship with dad. We don't talk about football when we are together.”

Although his team is struggling in this period, Enzo is happy for his new start. Alaves could be the right place for him. He is a very talented attacking midfielder who wants to progress his career as a normal player. His father's shadow is enormous but his mental strength and temperament will make a difference. Enzo is ready to walk alone and to begin his football career in his own right.
