Can Guzan’s save be compared to those of Buffon and Dida?

NEWS ATLANTA UNITED FC GUZAN BUFFON DIDA / Often we praise strikers for their unbelievable shots, techniques, and way to play for their teams. However, we cannot forget that goalkeepers are as important as strikers in football. 

Several great keepers played in the Italian Serie A. Gianluigi Buffon has been the best keeper in the word for almost two decades. Although the Italian magician is probably playing his last season with Juventus, we cannot forget his unbelievable reactivity and positive attitude demonstrated over the years. 

Some of you probably remember Buffon’s great save against Paraguay in the match between the South America national team and Italy (3-1 the final result). In my opinion, that maybe the best save ever made on a soccer field. In that occasion, a corner kick was deflected and the striker could have tapped in the ball easily but Buffon miraculously saved when the ball was almost crossing the line right under the crossbar. 

When we talk about great goalkeepers we have to mention the Brazilian Dida. He played with Milan for several years improving every day. Probably, he made his best save at San Siro stadium against Ajax. After a confused action in the box and a first shot blocked by a defender, Ajax number 10 was ready to score an easy goal. Milan’s Brazilian keeper denied it with an out of the ordinary reactivity. He laid down on his left side and saved the shot.

In the match between New York Red Bulls and Atlanta United FC that took place yesterday at the Red Bull Arena, we can definitely say that Atlanta’s keeper Brad Guzan made the difference. He was the undisputed MVP of the game. His save on Bradley Wright-Phillips was simply astonishing.
