Former Roma talent Lamela to return after double-hip surgery

The Argentine seems to be fit again after 13 tough months. He is called up for the next Tottenham match

NEWS LAMELA TOTTENHAM / Players come and go but certain talents are never forgotten. Erik Lamela is still very much appreciated by Roma fans. Their Argentine talent moved to the Italian Capital on August 6, 2011. In that period, Walter Sabatini was Roma's sporting director and fell in love with his talent and soft touch. The Italian manager traveled to Argentina to convince River Plate's president to release the player. Then he brought Lamela in Rome after having disoriented journalists saying that he was interested in Ricky Alvarez. Erik Lamela made 67 appearances with Roma and scored 21 goals and 13 assists, definitely a remarkable achievement for a youngster.

On August 30, 2013, the Argentine winger was purchased by Tottenham for a €30 million fee. Roma made a huge profit on him but the British side acquired a talent ready to become one of the best wingers in the world. Life is tough and unexpected things can change the course of it. The player needed a bit of time to adjust his playing style to the Premier League and his performances were disappointing for some time. Since the 2013-14 season, Lamela made 121 appearances with the London team scoring 19 goals and 31 assists.

Although his talent is still there, the player picked up several injuries in the last couple of years. Today's news is that he is finally fit again after having spent 13 months off the field. In the League Cup defeat to Liverpool in October 2016, the winger had to leave the field having experienced problems in both hips. Since then, the winger has undergone double-hip surgery.

Erik Lamela is fit again. Tottenham welcomes its talent

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to include Lamela in the squad that will face Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday. This is Erik's first call in over a year. The manager has unveiled his squad list during the press conference on Monday and stated:

He was training with us today and he felt good. He gave me his availability for tomorrow's game.

Erik Lamela could be a great addition to Tottenham. The winger is a player with different qualities, a talent able to pass the ball through, shot on target, and create a numerical superiority by dribbling the opponents.

Several clubs were thinking to sign him before he experienced that long injury. Roma was thinking about him last summer too. The club of Trigoria needed to replace Mohammed Salah and Erik was one of the possible names for the right offensive flank. Inter was chasing the Argentine as well. Walter Sabatini is now working for the Nerazzurri in Milan and he would be willing to purchase him again. The Italian director firmly believes in Lamela's potential.

Erik Lamela's transfer value is approximately €15 million. His contract is set to expire on June 30, 2019. Tottenham will test the player until the end of the season to decide what to do with him. If the winger will be able to make a difference his contract will be renewed, otherwise, the British side could put him on the market next summer.
